Make Your Own Jazz Fest Schedule
The Jazz and Heritage Fest is finally here and to celebrate WWOZ has launched their retooled website! One of the innovations that I particularly like is the ability to create your own Jazz Fest Schedule. Instead of having to dig through the details of all the acts (which is, of course, also a fun way to do it), you can select which acts you are going to and print out a personalized schedule.

Check it out!

Post-Katrina WWOZ location
In contrast to the nostalgia pix of my last post, I realized that lots of internet listeners (and maybe some locals) may not know what WWOZ's current location looks like. Here 'tis:

WWOZ has space on the second floor of the French Market office building. This is on South Peters in the lower Quarter, across the street from "Joanie on the Pony" (the Joan of Arc statue), or as oldtimers know the location, where the Morning Call used to be. In this photo, someone is on the balcony outside of the studio window.

When the station returned to New Orleans with a studio here after the great Federal levee disaster, I heard the space in the French Market Building would last for about a year. That was mid December 2005, and WWOZ is still there, and I've heard nothing of any move soon.

Dick Allen, we will miss you

Richard B. Allen, jazz historian 1927 - 2007

"Allen is not only the curator of the Archive of New Orleans Jazz, but he is, in a sense, the curator of present-day New Orleans jazz itself." -- Whitney Balliett, The New Yorker, 1967

"You left out bon vivant!" -- Dick Allen
